Yashasvi Jaiswal Surpasses Legends with Test Sixes

Yashasvi Jaiswal became the third Indian to cross 600 runs in a Test series against England with only former captain Kohli (655 in 2016/17) standing ahead, while he topped India head coach Rahul Dravid (602 runs in 2002).

India’s young batting sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal, continues to make waves in Test cricket, surpassing several legends with his remarkable performance. During the ongoing fourth Test against England, Jaiswal’s six in the first innings propelled him past renowned players like Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Azharuddin, and Rahul Dravid in terms of Test sixes. His aggressive knock of 73 runs, including eight fours and a six, showcased his burgeoning talent and took his career tally to 26 sixes, on par with Virat Kohli.

Jaiswal’s explosive batting has been a highlight of the series, with the 20-year-old amassing 618 runs in just seven innings across four matches, boasting an impressive average of 103 and a strike rate of over 78. His stellar performance includes two double centuries and two fifties, with a best score of 214*. Notably, he also set a new record for the most Test sixes by an Indian batter in a calendar year, smashing 23 sixes in just five matches in 2024.

In addition to his individual achievements, Jaiswal’s contributions have significantly bolstered India’s batting lineup, providing crucial runs and stability. His consistency and ability to perform under pressure have earned him a coveted spot among the top performers in the ongoing series against England.

Despite England’s formidable first innings total of 353 runs, anchored by Joe Root’s unbeaten century, India showcased resilience, with bowlers like Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Akash Deep making significant contributions. Jadeja’s four-wicket haul and Akash Deep’s impressive debut spell helped restrict England’s batting lineup, giving India a fighting chance in the match.

On the batting front, Jaiswal’s aggressive approach, coupled with valuable partnerships with players like Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav, enabled India to stage a partial comeback. Ending the second day at 219/7, with Jurel and Yadav at the crease, India demonstrated determination and grit, chipping away at England’s lead.

Jaiswal’s achievement of crossing the 600-run mark in a Test series further solidifies his position among cricketing greats, joining the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Dravid. His stellar performance against England places him in elite company, with only Kohli surpassing him in terms of runs scored in a Test series against England.

As the series progresses, all eyes will be on Yashasvi Jaiswal as he aims to surpass Kohli’s record and continue his impressive run with the bat. With his talent and determination, Jaiswal has emerged as a key player for India, poised to leave a lasting impact on the world of cricket.
