Discord Revamps and Make Changes to Platform

Discord introduces revamped warning system and plans for fresh features on mobile app

Discord, the popular instant messaging application, is reinforcing its commitment to user safety by introducing a revamped warning system that places zero tolerance on rule violations. This enhanced system aims to ensure the protection of teenage users and foster a more transparent community. Discord has also revealed plans for new features to enhance the mobile app experience in the coming months.

The core element of Discord’s updated warning system is the elimination of permanent bans for users who violate the platform’s guidelines. Instead, the app will issue warnings to individuals found in breach of the rules, coupled with certain feature limitations to notify them of their infractions. For more severe violations, temporary account suspensions will be employed instead of permanent bans. Savannah Badalich, the Senior Director of Policy at Discord, emphasized that this new system provides users with more opportunities to acknowledge their errors and make amends.

Teen Safety Assist is another significant addition to Discord’s safety measures. This feature is specifically designed to enhance the safety of teenage users on the platform. Teen Safety Assist will automatically blur sexually explicit content in direct messages and servers intended for teenage users. Adults using the platform will have the option to enable these features for themselves. Discord’s AI models will scan content that violates these rules, replacing the need for human moderation and addressing any “problematic content.”

Furthermore, the mobile app will introduce a new Midnight theme, allowing users to conserve battery life on compatible devices. Other upcoming features for the mobile app include tappable search filters, improvements to the notifications tab with an auto-clear function, and a novel remix feature that facilitates the creation of memes from images.

In a bid to enhance user experience, Discord is also rolling out an in-app store, which is already accessible to Nitro members. Additionally, Premium app subscriptions will expand to the UK and Europe this week, offering users an array of features and benefits.

Discord’s comprehensive approach to user safety, coupled with the introduction of new features and enhancements, reflects the app’s dedication to fostering a positive and secure community for all of its users. The revamp of its warning system emphasizes the importance of transparent communication and accountability while promoting a zero-tolerance policy for rule violations to protect teenage users.
