The New York Post reported that an 18-year-old woman has been arrested and the woman is facing charges for attempting to hire hitman this week to kill her 3-year-old son. According to the police, the woman used the website RentAHitman.com and requested a hitman to carry out the murder before the end of the week. However, she was unaware that the site was a parody. The operators of the parody website informed the police that the woman had contacted them for a murder-for-hire, providing pictures of her child and the exact location. Upon tracing the IP address used for the request, it matched the woman’s information. An investigator, posing as the hitman, contacted the woman who confirmed the request and agreed to pay $3,000 for the murder. Subsequently, the police arrested her at her residence.
She has been charged with first-degree solicitation of murder and third-degree use of a communications device for unlawful purposes, as per court documents. She is currently held on a $15,000 bond and has been ordered to stay away from her child, who is safe and with relatives, according to family members.
The motive behind her attempt to kill her own son remains undisclosed. In a similar incident, a 17-year-old girl in Iowa’s Storm Lake was arrested last month for attempting to hire hitman online to kill a 7-year-old child.
‘Rent-a-Hitman’ is a parody website, featuring fake testimonials, a request form, and a job application for aspiring hitmen. Police stated that the website’s founder created it to catch and deter individuals seeking to hire killers. The owner of the parody website, Bob Innes, stated that he routinely forwards suspicious requests to local authorities. He emphasized the importance of educating adults and children about the potential dangers of the internet and the presence of harmful individuals online.
