India: Safe Return of Citizens from Israel Amid Ongoing Crisis

Around 1.5 million Palestinian civilians in Rafah, Gaza, were forced to evacuate south due to Israeli attacks. War between Israel and militants, including Hamas and PIJ, began on October 7, 2023. Positive signs of progress in discussions between the US and Israel noted by officials.

India is making concerted efforts to ensure the safety and secure return of its citizens stranded in Israel amid the escalating crisis in the region. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has commended the government for its prompt action in launching Operation Ajay, an “unprecedented rescue mission” to bring back Indian nationals. Over 200 Indians, including students, have already been successfully evacuated from Israel.

Gaurav Bhatia, a national spokesperson for the BJP, emphasized that the government’s swift response in evacuating Indian citizens from Israel reflects the strength and sensitivity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. The operation is a testament to how the government prioritizes the welfare of its people, he said.

The ongoing crisis in Israel, with attacks on Israeli towns by Hamas militants, has prompted India to launch Operation Ajay, facilitating the return of those who wish to come back to India. This mission reaffirms India’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens, even in challenging times.

India has been working diligently to ensure the return of its citizens stranded in different parts of the world during various crises. In 2015, Operation Rahat successfully evacuated around 67,000 Indians from Yemen. Similarly, Operation Sankat Mochan brought back 158 Indians and two Nepalese from Sudan. Over 800 Indians were evacuated from Afghanistan in 2021, and Operation Ganga ensured the safe return of 22,500 Indians from Ukraine last year. Earlier this year, India evacuated 4,097 people, including 3,961 Indians and 136 citizens of other countries, from Sudan.

Gaurav Bhatia pointed out that India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, is not only committed to protecting its own citizens but also extends a helping hand to citizens of other countries during crises. The government’s proactiveness and commitment to its people have positioned India as a nation that stands by its citizens in both good and difficult times.

The BJP spokesperson emphasized that India’s global presence under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has grown significantly. The country not only protects its own citizens but also supports citizens of other nations in crisis situations, making it a major global player. Bhatia emphasized that Prime Minister Modi has emerged as a towering global leader known for his strong will and effective leadership.

Operation Ajay, aimed at ensuring the safe return of Indians from Israel, is being implemented with the significant involvement of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who is actively coordinating efforts to bring back Indian nationals.

As the crisis in Israel continues to unfold, India remains committed to its citizens’ safety and well-being. The government’s proactive response demonstrates its ability to prioritize public interests and take effective action when necessary. The BJP spokesperson encouraged all Indian citizens in the region to stay calm and safe, assuring them that the government is fully committed to ensuring their secure return to India.

In response to a question about the opposition’s support for the people of Palestine, Bhatia emphasized that when the Prime Minister of India articulates the country’s stance, it represents the voice of every Indian. India has a history of standing with humanity and supporting innocent people facing acts of terrorism and crisis. Bhatia reiterated that India’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens and the global community remains unwavering under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
