Amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, Britain’s Prince William issued a passionate plea on February 20, urging an immediate end to the violence. His statement emphasized the immense human suffering endured in the enclave and stressed the urgent need for peace to prevent further loss of life, as reported by Reuters.
In an unexpected move for a member of the royal family, Prince William highlighted the critical importance of delivering aid to Gaza’s population and demanded the release of hostages held by Hamas.
“I remain deeply concerned about the terrible human cost of the conflict in the Middle East since the Hamas terrorist attack (on Israel) on October 7. Too many have been killed,” William said in a statement, according to the report.
This statement from Prince William underscores his ongoing commitment to the region, following his milestone visit to both Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory in 2018. Since then, he has maintained a close interest in the region’s developments.
In response to Prince William’s plea, Israeli government spokesman Eylon Levy stated, “Israelis, of course, want to see an end to the fighting as soon as possible, and that will be possible once the 134 hostages are released, and once the Hamas terror army threatening to repeat the October 7 atrocities is dismantled.”
Kensington Palace revealed that Prince William’s statement had been briefed to Britain’s Foreign Office beforehand, indicating a coordinated approach to the issue.
“Sometimes it is only when faced with the sheer scale of human suffering that the importance of permanent peace is brought home,” William said, expressing his concern over the ongoing conflict’s toll on innocent civilians.
The prince’s visit to the British Red Cross headquarters in London on February 20 provided him with firsthand insights into their efforts to assist individuals affected by conflicts in the Middle East. During this visit, he reiterated his call for an end to the violence and emphasized the urgent need for increased humanitarian support to Gaza.
“I, like so many others, want to see an end to the fighting as soon as possible,” he said. “There is a desperate need for increased humanitarian support to Gaza. It’s critical that aid gets in and the hostages are released.”
Israel’s Levy expressed appreciation for Prince William’s call for Hamas to release the hostages and condemned Hamas’ terror attacks, referencing William’s previous statement from October 11.
In the coming week, Prince William is scheduled to visit a synagogue where he will engage with young individuals actively combating hatred and antisemitism. This visit comes at a time when Britain has seen a distressing peak in antisemitic incidents, as reported by a Jewish advisory body.

Globally, calls for an immediate end to the Gaza conflict have intensified in recent weeks, particularly as Israel prepares to extend its ground offensive to the southern city of Rafah, which houses over 1 million of Gaza’s 2.3 million Palestinians.
According to local health authorities, more than 29,000 Palestinians have lost their lives in the conflict, with the recent escalation resulting from Israel’s response to a Hamas attack, leading to the deaths of 1,200 people, predominantly civilians, and the capture of 253 hostages.
