Over the past few weeks, Herat and the surrounding areas have experienced multiple earthquakes, the first of which struck on October 7 with a magnitude of 6.3. Subsequent powerful aftershocks followed, leading to widespread devastation, particularly in rural villages located to the northwest of Herat city. Shockingly, according to officials from the Taliban-led ministry, these earthquakes have claimed the lives of over 4,000 people.
The aftermath of these tremors has left numerous individuals homeless, exacerbating the suffering and creating additional victims. Survivors are also contending with dust storms that have damaged their makeshift shelters and any possessions that remain. In the absence of adequate housing, many residents are now forced to live amid the ruins of their homes, where entire families have tragically perished.
