Three Months into Israel-Hamas Conflict

Israel actively participated in the new ceasefire plan with the top officials of the US, Qatar, and Egypt

The Israel-Hamas conflict, triggered by a Hamas attack on Israel, has now entered its third month, resulting in thousands of casualties and displacing hundreds of thousands from the Gaza Strip. The situation is complex, with recent developments and ongoing efforts to address the crisis.

Israeli Military Signals End of Major Combat in Northern Gaza:
The Israeli military has indicated the completion of major combat operations in northern Gaza, claiming to have dismantled Hamas’ military infrastructure in the region. Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli defense forces, stated that efforts would now focus on strengthening defenses along the Israel-Gaza border and addressing the central and southern parts of the territory. The situation remains fluid as Israel continues its strategic considerations.

US Secretary of State’s Urgent Diplomatic Mission:

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken undertook an urgent diplomatic mission to West Asia to meet with Arab partners. The goal is to seek their assistance in preventing the escalation of Israel’s three-month war against Hamas from spreading further. The Biden administration has urged Israel to shift its approach, focusing on more targeted attacks against Hamas leaders to minimize harm to Palestinians.

Death Toll and Humanitarian Concerns:

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Israel’s retaliation has resulted in the death of more than 22,800 Palestinians and wounded over 58,000. The initial Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 claimed the lives of 1,200 people. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza persists, with the majority of its 2.3 million residents squeezed into smaller areas and facing continued Israeli airstrikes.

Israel Claims Iranian Support in Hamas Missile Production:

Israeli Defense Forces operating in Gaza claim to have discovered components used by Hamas for producing precision-guided missiles, with direct assistance from Iran. The IDF alleges that terrorists of the Hamas organization learned, under Iranian guidance, how to operate and build precision components and strategic weapons. The discovery was part of an operation to expose a 330-foot terror tunnel.

Israel’s Ongoing Offensive in South Gaza:

Recent weeks have seen Israel scaling back its military assault in northern Gaza while intensifying its offensive in the south. Most of Gaza’s population is concentrated in smaller areas in the south, facing dire humanitarian conditions amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes.

Starlink Approval for Limited Operations in Gaza:

Israel is expected to grant approval for Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service to commence limited operations in Gaza. Initially restricted to official bodies, sales will be subject to limitations, and access for humanitarian organizations will require approval from Israel’s defense establishment. The move aims to provide improved connectivity in the region.

Escalation with Lebanon’s Hezbollah Adds Complexity:

Cross-border fighting and conflict between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah has escalated, complicating US efforts to prevent a regional conflict. Hezbollah described recent rockets as an “initial response” to the targeted killing of a top Hamas leader in a Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut, presumed to have been carried out by Israel. The situation adds further uncertainty to the already complex dynamics in the region.
