Mumbai-based film production and distribution house Rajshri Productions has announced the release date of their upcoming film “Dono.” Co-produced by Jio Studios, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd, the film is set to hit cinemas on October 5. The movie is directed by Avnish Barjatya, the son of renowned filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, and features Rajveer Deol, son of Sunny Deol, and Paloma Dhillon, daughter of actor Poonam Dhillon, in lead roles.
Jio Studios has been making strategic investments to enhance its OTT platform, Jio Cinema, and increase its subscription and advertising revenues. Industry experts estimate that Jio Studios could invest up to ₹3,000 crore in this endeavor. The company’s plan to create a diverse lineup of 100 movies and web originals aims to solidify its position in the streaming market and retain viewer engagement beyond events like the Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Rajshri Productions, with a legacy dating back to 1947, is renowned for its contribution to Indian cinema. The production house has delivered numerous successful and critically acclaimed films over the years, including iconic titles like “Dosti” (1964), “Maine Pyar Kiya” (1989), “Hum Aapke Hain Koun” (1994), and more. The studio played a pivotal role in reviving the film industry in the late 1980s with the blockbuster “Maine Pyar Kiya,” directed by Sooraj Barjatya, which became a game-changer during a period of video cassette popularity.
Avnish Barjatya’s directorial debut “Dono” is expected to continue Rajshri Productions’ legacy of delivering heartwarming and family-oriented films. This project also aligns with Jio Studios’ commitment to providing diverse and engaging content to audiences across various platforms.
As the film industry continues to evolve with streaming platforms gaining prominence, collaborations like this between Rajshri Productions and Jio Studios signify a dynamic shift in the way Indian cinema reaches and engages with its audience.
