The Greater Chennai Police issued a statement on Thursday confirming that several educational institutions within the Greater Chennai Police limits had received bomb threat emails. However, Chennai Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Prem Anand Sinha reassured the public, stating, “No need to panic about this. It looks like a hoax email, but we are taking all the precautions.”
According to ACP Sinha, approximately 13-14 schools across the city reported receiving such emails. The motive and origin of these emails are currently under investigation, and as of now, no specific demands have been made in the emails.
In response to the threat, teams from the Greater Chennai City Police (GCP) and the Bomb Disposal and Detection Squad (BDDS) have been deployed for “Anti-Sabotage Checks” at the affected educational institutions. The police are actively working to identify the individual responsible for sending these emails.
Following the receipt of the threat emails, many schools chose to close early, and parents were requested to pick up their children, as reported by The Hindu.
In a post on social media, the Greater Chennai Police urged the public not to panic and assured that necessary measures are being taken to address the situation.
