The Delhi government has taken proactive measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming G20 Summit scheduled for September 9 and 10 in the national capital. In a recent gazette notification issued on September 5, comprehensive traffic restrictions have been outlined to minimize disruptions during the summit.
According to the notification, from midnight on September 7 until 11:59 PM on September 10, several major roads will be off-limits to vehicles, including Mathura Road (beyond Ashram Chowk), Bhairon Road, Purana Quila Road, and the inside of Pragati Maidan Tunnel. Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs), and Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs) are also prohibited from entering Delhi from 21:00 hours on September 7 to 23:59 hours on September 10. However, vehicles transporting essential commodities, such as milk, vegetables, fruits, and medical supplies, with valid ‘No Entry Permissions’ will be allowed to enter Delhi.
The entire New Delhi District will be designated as “Controlled Zone-I” from 5 AM on September 8 to 11:59 PM on September 10. Within this period, the area inside Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) will be considered a “Regulated Zone.” Only authorized residents, emergency vehicles, those heading to the Airport, Old Delhi, and New Delhi Railway Stations, as well as other authorized vehicles, will be permitted to use the road network in the New Delhi District during these hours. TSRs (three-wheeled shared taxis) and taxi services will not be allowed to enter or operate within the New Delhi District from 5 AM on September 9 to 11:59 PM on September 10.
However, it’s important to note that all types of commercial vehicles, including buses already present in Delhi, will be permitted to travel on Ring Road and the road network beyond Ring Road towards the borders of Delhi.
The G20 Summit in New Delhi, scheduled for September 9 to 10, is set to be a significant global event, with world leaders expected to attend. The summit will be hosted at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre located at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
These traffic restrictions are part of the city’s efforts to ensure security and logistical preparations for the summit, aiming to provide a seamless experience for both attendees and residents of Delhi during this important international event.
