During a recent Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession in Nuh, Haryana, violence erupted, leading to the tragic loss of four lives. The clashes that initially started in Nuh soon spread to Gurugram, where incidents of vandalism and unrest were reported. As the investigation into the violence unfolds, probe has shed light on intelligence failures and inadequate police deployment as significant factors contributing to the escalation of the situation.
Nuh District Inspector (CID) Vishvajeet revealed that his department had issued formal warnings to local authorities about the potential for trouble during the VHP’s 130-km Braj Mandal Yatra, especially while passing through Muslim-dominated areas. However, the warnings were seemingly ignored, and the lack of preparedness led to the violent confrontation that ensued.
Adding to the tension was the presence of a notorious cow vigilante, Monu Manesar, who, although advised by the VHP not to participate in the yatra, became the subject of a rumour that triggered the violence. The lack of coordination and communication between authorities and locals further fueled the already volatile situation.
One disturbing aspect of the incident was the rioters’ act of ramming a bus into a cyber police station, which had been actively cracking down on cybercrime in the district. This action caused resentment among the locals and escalated the hostilities.
Moreover, the inadequate deployment of police forces along the yatra route proved detrimental to maintaining order. The available force was thinly spread across the extended route, leaving crucial picket points unattended and falling short of effectively controlling the situation.
As the investigation continues, authorities must take proactive measures to address the intelligence failures and ensure proper police deployment during public events to prevent similar incidents in the future. The clashes serve as a stark reminder of the importance of efficient coordination, vigilance, and communication between law enforcement agencies and local communities to maintain peace and security during such public gatherings. Only through such proactive efforts can authorities hope to avert violence and protect the safety and well-being of all citizens.
