The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a significant step towards streamlining toll collection through its latest initiative, ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag.’ The initiative aims to discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a specific vehicle, promoting efficiency in the electronic toll collection system. As part of this initiative, NHAI has announced that FASTags with valid balances but incomplete Know Your Customer (KYC) details will be deactivated by banks after January 31, 2024. The move is expected to enhance the overall efficiency of toll collection at highway toll plazas.
To avoid inconvenience and ensure a seamless toll payment experience, NHAI encourages FASTag users to complete the KYC process for their latest FASTags. Users are advised to update KYC details as per the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative emphasizes having only one active FASTag account for a specific vehicle, and users should discard any previously issued FASTags through their respective banks.
Completing the KYC process for FASTags involves visiting the official FASTag website, logging in using the mobile number and OTP received, navigating to the “My Profile” section, and clicking on the KYC tab. Users must provide necessary details and submit the information. The required documents for FASTag KYC include a vehicle Registration Certificate, Identity proof, Address proof, and a passport-size photo.
FASTag, an electronic toll collection system, has revolutionized the toll payment process at highway toll plazas. It involves affixing a FASTag to the vehicle’s windscreen, linked to a bank account or prepaid card. Utilizing Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, toll charges are automatically deducted when a vehicle equipped with a FASTag approaches the toll booth, ensuring a faster and more efficient toll payment experience.
To check the status of their FASTag, users can visit fastag.ihmcl.com, log in using OTP and their registered mobile number, and select the “My Profile” section on the dashboard to view the KYC status of their FASTag.
NHAI’s proactive measures, such as the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative, aim to modernize toll collection systems, reduce congestion at toll plazas, and promote a smoother travel experience for road users. It emphasizes the importance of complying with the initiative to ensure that only the latest FASTag account remains active, while previous tags will be deactivated or blacklisted after January 31, 2024.
