Lalu Prasad Yadav: ED Seizes Property in Jobs Scam
X (Twitter)FacebookWhatsappTelegram

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has reportedly seized the property belonging to family of Lalu Prasad Yadav in connection with the land-for-railway jobs scam case. The properties include their residential houses in Delhi and Patna, including one in New Friends Colony.

According to reports, assets worth ₹6 Crore have been attached by the Enforcement Directorate from the veteran leader of Rastriya Janata Dal (RJD) and his family. The ED has issued a provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to take action on these properties.

Over the past few months, the ED has recorded statements of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s wife and former Chief Minister of Bihar, Rabri Devi, his son and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, Tejashwi Yadav, and his daughters Misa Bharti (RJD MP in Rajya Sabha), Chanda Yadav, and Ragini Yadav, in connection with the case.

The alleged scam dates back to the period when Lalu Prasad was the railway minister during the UPA-1 government.

This development comes just a day after Lalu Prasad Yadav, a prominent leader of the Opposition INDIA bloc, made allegations against the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). He claimed that if the BJP loses the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would leave India and settle elsewhere. Lalu Prasad Yadav expressed confidence that the BJP will be “wiped out” in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier this month, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed a second chargesheet in the land-for-job scam case.

In this case, Lalu Prasad Yadav is accused of providing railway jobs in exchange for plots of land from candidates or their relatives, either as gifts or at reduced rates. The probe into this matter began two years ago, but the case was officially registered last year.

The scam allegedly took place between 2004 and 2009, during which Lalu Prasad Yadav allegedly received pecuniary benefits by transferring landed property to his family members in exchange for appointing “substitutes” to Group D Posts in various railway zones. The candidates were quickly appointed in “undue haste” by railway officials, and they were later regularized when they or their family members transferred their land.

The CBI has claimed that the appointees, who were residents of Patna, were appointed as substitutes in different zonal railways without any public notice or advertisement. The land transfers were carried out in the name of Rabri Devi and their daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav, as well as a private company controlled by the former chief minister and his family. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has reportedly seized the property belonging to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family in connection with the land-for-railway jobs scam case.
