West Indies captain Shai Hope has openly addressed his team’s inconsistency after the disappointing 2-1 series loss to India. Despite possessing the potential to perform at their best, the West Indies team often faces overwhelming defeats on certain occasions.
The third ODI match, which served as the series decider, saw India secure a convincing 200-run victory at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, resulting in India winning the series with a scoreline of 2-1.
Hope acknowledged that the target of 350 was attainable, but the day did not favor them. Reflecting on the match, he admitted that they could identify areas for improvement in hindsight, but they couldn’t present a strong challenge to India right from the beginning. While the pitch allowed for a reachable total of 350, it just wasn’t their day to achieve it.
The West Indies captain stressed the significance of maintaining a winning attitude and consistent performance among the team members. He emphasized the need for the team to come together as a unit to turn these losses into victories.
The team’s contrasting performances have been evident, where they can play like the best team in the world on some days, but struggle significantly on others, ultimately leading to being “steamrolled” by their opponents.
“Some days, we wake up and play like the best team in the world. And, some days, we just get steamrolled,” Hope expressed, as reported by ANI.
In the third ODI, India’s impressive opening partnership of 143 runs between Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, followed by quickfire knocks from Sanju Samson and Hardik Pandya, powered India to a formidable total of 351/5. This overwhelming performance led to a massive 200-run victory for India in just 35.3 overs.
