In a surprising move, former US President Donald Trump has made a triumphant return to X (formerly Twitter) by sharing his own police mugshot. The photograph, taken at the Fulton County Jail, is captioned with the words “ELECTION INTERFERENCE” and “NEVER SURRENDER!” Trump’s post also includes a link to his 2024 presidential campaign.

This marks the first time Trump has been required to have his mugshot taken. Although he faced earlier criminal cases in New York, Florida, and Washington this year, authorities had deemed mugshots unnecessary in those instances. In the mugshot, Trump’s stern expression is directed towards the camera, creating a powerful visual statement. Interestingly, all other defendants in the case, including Rudy Giuliani, had their mugshots taken.
The return of Trump to X is a significant event, as he was an active and prominent user of the platform throughout his presidency. However, he was banned from the social media platform following the Capitol Hill riot. Elon Musk, who acquired the company, later lifted Trump’s ban, but the former president had refrained from posting until now.
The photo post generated swift and diverse reactions from netizens, reflecting the polarizing nature of his presence on the platform. Within a short span of time, the photo received over 70,000 comments and garnered more than 284,000 likes.
Trump’s post not only marks his return to X but also signifies his first appearance on the platform since shortly after the chaotic insurrection at the US Capitol by his supporters. The message, combined with the impactful image, serves as a significant announcement of his comeback and his stance on recent events.
It is worth noting that Trump turned himself in at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta to be booked on state charges related to allegations of conspiring to overturn the result of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. The surrender was prompted by a directive from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who ordered Trump and others to turn themselves in or face arrest. Trump’s arraignment is expected to take place early next month, adding another layer of complexity to his already eventful return to the public sphere.
