The Switzerland Embassy in India has taken steps to clarify and address concerns surrounding the Schengen visa application process for Indian tour groups. Contrary to media reports citing a suspension of the visa process due to a backlog of pending applications, the embassy spokesperson stated that there is no suspension. In fact, the embassy has been actively processing visa applications and has witnessed a notable increase in the number of applications in 2023 compared to 2019.
To provide a smoother and more efficient visa application process for Indian applicants, the Switzerland Embassy has implemented three significant measures. Firstly, applicants can now apply for their Schengen visa six months before their travel date, a considerable extension compared to the previous one-month limit. This change allows travelers to plan their trips well in advance, reducing last-minute rush and uncertainty.
Secondly, to cater to the increasing number of applicants, the embassy has expanded its overall capacity in India. A new Visa Application Centre (VAC) has been established in Lucknow, bringing the total number of VACs across the country to 13. This expansion allows for a greater number of appointments and better accessibility for applicants from various regions in India.
Thirdly, the decision time between the appointment at the VAC and the embassy’s final decision on the application has been significantly reduced. Previously, the process could take longer, leading to delays in travel plans. Now, the decision time has been streamlined, and applicants can expect to receive a decision in no more than 13 working days.
These measures reflect the embassy’s commitment to providing a more efficient and hassle-free visa application process for Indian tourists. By increasing capacity, extending application timelines, and reducing decision times, the Switzerland Embassy aims to facilitate travel to Switzerland and foster stronger ties between the two countries.
The Schengen visa application for Switzerland requires applicants to submit various essential documents, including a completed application form, a valid passport, travel insurance, proof of accommodation, a detailed itinerary, evidence of financial means, employment or enrollment proof, and the visa fee payment receipt. Ensuring that all necessary documents are submitted accurately and in a timely manner is crucial to a successful visa application.
With these measures in place, the Switzerland Embassy hopes to encourage more Indian tourists to visit the country and experience its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality. By facilitating travel and simplifying the visa application process, Switzerland aims to strengthen its ties with India and further promote tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
